Agility
Agility is a popular sport that focuses on teamwork between dog and human to navigate an obstacle course. Dogs compete against dogs of the same height (measured at the shoulders or "withers"). Obstacles that dogs traverse may include tables, teeter-totters, A-frames, dog walks, weave poles, jumps, tunnels, chutes and tires. There are multiple organizations to enter for competitions, which vary in price, games and rules. Group classes are offered on a weekly schedule, and since we continue to work on the same obstacles each week, students are able to join mid-session rather than wait for a week 1. For more information on our Instructors’ backgrounds, please see the "About Us" page. For class schedule, please see "Calendar".
Group Classes
In order to maintain high standards of training, we limit our class size to 6 students per class. By keeping our class sizes low we believe our students retain more, learn faster, and enjoy a more comfortable social environment as well. Beginner classes are held indoors and feature a smaller A-frame and dog walk to allow dogs to build skill without fear. Intermediate and Advanced classes are taught on a fully equipped competition sized field (weather permitting). Students advance through the levels as skills are attained and with instructor approval. Each session is 8 weeks long. All instructors at the Ranch compete with their dogs in Agility, and often attend workshops and seminars - this helps us stay current in the latest training techniques.
Private or Semi-Private Lessons
Private or Semi-private lessons can be scheduled for weekday, weekend, or evening appointments with any of our instructors. Sharing of lessons allows students of similar skill levels to share one hour of training.
Facility Rental
Our agility equipment is also available for rental without instruction. We have several options to choose from, and you can choose indoor or outdoor rental. Our equipment is fairly new and well maintained. We have both rubber contacts (on the outdoor field) and non-rubber (inside).
Due to the expense of a/c, we reserve the right to add a $5 per hour surcharge if you choose to rent when the building is not in use (and previously cooled). We will work with you to avoid this expense, if you can rent before or after a scheduled class.
Please keep in mind that all services at the Ranch are by appointment only, so please call 678.493.8040 or email stay@thecanineranch.com to book your appointment.
