We offer several levels of group Obedience classes.
Our Beginner Obedience class is more appropriately called Canine Manners 101, because our goal in this 6 week class is to help you and your canine find a lifestyle that is harmonious and free from nasty habits such as jumping, chewing, counter surfing, excessive barking – all of this on top of the basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, and door manners. Our class size is typically 6 to 7 students, and our instructors work with each student individually to provide hands-on training. Instructor dogs are also used to demonstrate proper technique.
Intermediate Obedience classes last 8 weeks long, and focus on proofing distractions, duration, and distance – all critical factors in ensuring that dogs learn these behaviors happen both at home, and in other places of distraction. This class will also help prepare you for the Canine Good Citizen Test which will take place on week 8 of the class.
Private lessons allow individuals to focus only on the goals their dog needs, and by-pass the curriculum that they have already achieved. We tailor each lesson so that your dog learns quickly, and you understand correct timing, delivery, rewarding, and correcting all of your obedience or house manners.
Please note that most behavioral lessons must be done in-home, so that we can re-create each skill in the dog’s natural environment.
Semi-private lessons may be shared between dogs and owners of similar skill levels.
NOTES FOR NEW STUDENTS:
- Please arrive a few minutes before class to potty your dog. There are potty bags in the grassy area in front of the building, and the potty bag trash can is located outside the building to the right of the main door.
- Please bring a 4 or 6 foot leash (no retractables allowed). Also we recommend bringing cookies that are moist and interesting (nothing large and dry like Milk Bones). If you don’t already have these items, please come early to shop in our store for our trainer-recommended leashes and treats.
Also recognize that not all dogs have the same personal zone or comfort in greeting other dogs on leash - please keep your dog close by until we know each other better - we want to make sure everyone has a great experience in class!
- If something were to happen that prevents us from having class, you will be notified via text or e-mail 24 hours in advance so please make sure the information we have on file is accurate. If you cannot make class on any given week, please let us know.
Please keep in mind that all services at the Ranch are by appointment only, so please call 678-493-8040 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your appointment.>
